Richland WatchD.O.G.S.

WatchD.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is an innovative program focusing on the prevention of violence in our children’s schools by using the positive influence of fathers. Our mission is to provide an unobtrusive security presence, and to provide a positive and active role-model for children at Richland Elementary.

WatchDOG volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards or spelling.

Accelerated Reading Program & Year-End Store

Throughout the year, students take AR tests in their classroom after reading a book. The points each student earns on these tests accumulate, and Ms. Ferkin, our librarian, runs a final point tally per student at the end of the first week of May. Every year we celebrate reading achievement through our Accelerated Reading “store”.

Students with more than 100 AR points must “spend” some of their points on a Gift Card. Students with between 75-100 AR points may select a Gift Card as part of their reward prize. We offer over 10 different GCs to stores and restaurants in our community.

For more information, please contact ARSTORE@RICHLANDPTO.ORG

Richland Elementary has partnered with Carpool Assist to connect parents who wish to start or participate in a carpool for their students. Signing up and creating or joining a pool is quick, easy and absolutely free! So whether you want to find a carpool for your children or want to start one, please sign-up to ensure the success of this program. Select “Richland Elementary School” under School Destination to get started.

Carpool Assist’s vision is to fill every vehicle traveling on the road to 60-80% of its seating capacity, by making it easy to setup carpools with neighbors, co-workers and like minded people.

Titles For TomorrowChildread

Titles for Tomorrow is a great way to help support Richland’s Library! For a minimum donation of $20 the PTO will purchase an approved new hardback book for the Richland library. Books can be purchased in honor of your child’s birthday or any other special occasion. A bookplate will be placed in the front of the book with the student’s and donors’ names, and the book will be delivered (along with a small goodie bag) to the child’s classroom so he or she will be the first one to read it.The student may keep the book for a week and then return it to the school library. We welcome any suggestions, but cannot guarantee any specific book. Please contact Shannon Pressler at 289-3890 or titlesfortomorrow@richlandpto.org with any questions. Or you can print the form below and send it in to your child’s teacher: Titles for Tomorrow.

2015 back to school Grounds Beautification Day

The Grounds Beautification Crew
We are a group of parent volunteers who, along with our students, meet quarterly at Richland to clean up and beautify the school grounds. Our events are held on Saturday mornings. Everyone is encouraged to bring their whole family, as this is an excellent service opportunity for even the youngest volunteer. It is also a great way to give back to our beloved school and make some new friends in the process. Shelby County Schools cuts the grass at Richland, but the rest of the weeding, trimming, planting, and picking up of trash is left up to PTO volunteers. All you need to do is show up!!!

Reach out to Courtney Howard and Julie Sawyer at groundsbeautification@richlandpto.org with any questions.

Grounds Beautification Saturdays

Bring the whole family on these important days, as Richland teams up with Bellevue Baptist Church to improve our school grounds. Each Saturday throughout the year, will be spent cleaning up the school grounds, as well as making various improvements. Beautification Days for 2017/2018 school year are:
