Additional News:

The Hawkeye.  The second issue of The Hawkeye is now available and posted on the website under Resources in the main menu.  Please check it out!  If your child was on the Honor Roll or a Kiwanis Club Terrific Kid, you may also want to send several copies to grandparents and other family members.

Cafeteria News.  The Richland Cafeteria is going Greener!  The cafeteria has been doing our part to recycle at Richland. The “Green Team,” led by Dr. Otsuki, has been busy during lunch overseeing the collection of Capri Sun drink packages, Lunchable containers, aluminum cans and clear plastic water bottles. Many pounds of these items have been sent to recycling companies and not put into the garbage cans at school.

On Monday February 4, we began another “green” project in the cafeteria. Lunches are now served on washable trays like many of us used in our Elementary school days. There will certainly be a few weeks of learning as we all try to remember not to throw the new trays into the garbage, but it will be worth the effort.

Parents can help by volunteering for a shift in the cafeteria on signupgenius.com.  If you can’t be there, please help from home by making sure that your child has what they need in their lunchbox.  Spoons, napkins, ketchup, and water bottles are all necessary parts of lunch, and are so often forgotten at home. Also, little hands often have a hard time opening packages. Taking the cardboard wrapping off of the Lunchable, or peeling or cutting up a piece of fruit at home is a huge time saver at lunch when so many children need help getting started. Many thanks to all that help out, both in person and at home!
